It’s not always dark at 5pm

The last blog I wrote was on xmas eve and it was about life and how cruel it is and how to move forward without regrets. I also made a statement that “I sometimes expect things just to work out by itself. Well it just doesn’t work like that.”
Some have a life where if they fell out a window, it’s up they would go.

I set a goal to hit 70kgs before the 25th of December. On the 19th I plateaued at 67kg. It was a Sunday morning and I hit for Dublin with a night with all the lads. Some, I haven’t seen in a year. The 22nd I lost my appetite and had developed a little cough. During winter PWCF fight illness and infection 24/7. We take extra vigilant care and get vaccinations, are on extra vitamins and antibiotics. But sometimes it doesn’t work and with no immune system it makes it a little difficult. I kept plugging away and trying to eat 4000+ Calories per day and weight training. I lost 2 kg in weight and beginning of January went to my GP who prescribed more antibiotics. After 2 days I felt worse and went to Lorna and Dr. O’Neill. It was official. I had lost 5 kgs in weight and had a virus for the past 4 weeks weeks. My lungs, liver, sugars and Kidneys were strong. The only way to get rid of a virus is to rest and take fluids. With disappointment I would take to scales every day and see weight drop where it stopped at 61 kg. I then signed up to Pat Divilly’s online 12 week programme. Mainly because I needed a drive and motivation.

I took my mind off my weight by reading and training. Concentrating on happy and positive things as my subconscious mind had been trained. Power of attraction. When I thought about my health. I reminded myself that I had come through a life threatening brain injury. I had attracted 30,000+ to read a website for Organ Donation and CF with brain still in recovery and ultimately I left hospital at 47kg and put on over 20kgs. I had also gone back to work 3 months before I should.
So after signing up to Project Alpha 3.0, the week was pain but I then seen a YouTube video about books and went and read the go-giver. After reading the book, which took a day. Things moved around a little. First news I got was that I had been nominated for Mayo’s Person of the year along with Michael Commins from Mid-west. Maria Walsh, Rose of Tralee and a Holy Sister who has done phenomenal charity work.

James Horan won for work with Mayo GAA. Previous winners include John Grant of Western Alzeimhers, John Walkin who has worked endlessly for the environment and ultimately brought World Angling Championship to North Mayo, Monsignor James Horan of Knock but a huge honour to think I had been admired for my charity and awareness work by CFAI, CF West, Barnacarroll Foróige and individuals all over Mayo and beyond.

After that I got a phonecall from a friend in Castlebar about doing M.C for a quiz in Castlebar for the No-Name club but also CF and Organ Donation incorporated. The day after another talk in the Order of Malta in Ballinrobe this Friday. So it was back to small work but to me, it’s a pleasure.

Also my nomination and drive for Martina as Mayo’s most inspirational woman worked and proves that some voting committees know what there doing and vote for a worthy winner that has done so much voluntary work for not only CF but other charities and communities. If ya haven’t guessed we are all so proud of our sister who told me yesterday that my mind works faster than my body.

After all that mayhem I have put on them 2 kg’s and now stand at 63. With my mind occupied, a focus on a goal, good people around and sickness at bay. The world can be your playground.

I have the pleasure of being the promoter of Challenge the Greenway this year hopefully at the end of April. A 26 mile cycle for all from Achill to Westport in aid of CF West.

I also have a work dilemma but more about that o2/three bollix next week. Don’t wanna speak too soon but I think it’s time to move forward.
