The Bank Holiday weekend in May was my favourite weekend of the year, not only to the fact that it’s my Birthday and the Ballinrobe Races but it always used to be very sunny and to me began my summer of fun and frolics.

Last year I nearly died due to my own doings, I fought back, beat the odds and will be in the Mater for a full transplant and Neurology exam on the 5th of May. I actually relish the thought of it, because I know it’s a new life for me. With CF, the currently incurable disease we fight every day Unbeknownst to the future, unable to make plans.

We take medication that will prolong our lives but inevitably we are looking at transplant along the line or worst case scenario death.

In my lifetime I have been to 3 funerals of people that have lost there battle with Cystic Fibrosis. All younger than me until Saturday. I seen grown men cry. Families break down. The world concentrates on battles. Manny and Floyd fought last Saturday night and earned over 100 million each. Laura Donnellan fought CF all her life and CF eventually won after a titanic battle. She spent 2 and a half years on a transplant list but still no joy. She never gave in and fought back from ICU. This is why PWCF will always be known as fighters but we need help in both research and/or something that doesn’t cost a penny.
